Getting Here

George Town, the community hub of the region, is about 40 minutes’ drive from Launceston, which has an airport.

The Spirit of Tasmania runs between Port Melbourne in Victoria and Devonport in Northern Tasmania – around 1.5 hours’ drive to George Town, or just over an hour to Launceston.

Visitor Information Centre

George Town’s Visitor Information Centre is a great resource. Located at 92 Main Road, it’s open 9am-3pm daily. In addition to maps, books and souvenirs, the centre also offers bicycle hire – an ideal way to take advantage of the Recreation Trail running from George Town to Low Head. There are public toilets here, too.

Accomodation

The Provincial Tamar area boasts a variety of accommodation options, ranging from hotels, inns and B&Bs to self-contained luxury apartments and historic seaside cottages, along with a number of tourist parks with cabins and camping/caravan sites. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed family holiday, a romantic escape or a quick stop in your travels, there’s a place for you to stay here.

A listing of accomodation options (along with dining, places of interest, local events and more) is available on George Town Council’s website.
